HAVE A GOOD & POSITIVE ATTITUDE!
We all know how important a good attitude is! And we definitely know how terrible it is to be with someone with a bad attitude!!! Yuck! No fun! ????
Here’s an example of a positive and good attitude.
...when you are having a bad day, just not happy, feeling grumpy but you still say, “Good Morning” rather than “What's so good about this morning?!” or not even answering and just ignoring.
There is a great saying that...
” ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!”
It really is!! We choose how we are going to react and be in every situation and in everything we do.
We need look at life with a positive, happy attitude and try to see the good in all that we do!
I know this isn’t always easy...life can be tough. Like what we are all feeling right now being stuck at home, missing our friends and activities and our EFL program.????
So, you can be a grump, make everyone around you unhappy too. Complain about everything...but think about it??? Does it really feel any better, does it change anything? NO!
So what can we do to help ourselves?
Change our attitude! With a positive attitude we see the good in people! See the good in your life not the bad!
Be willing to try new things!! It’s fun and exciting!! ????
- Smile and be friendly. … ????
- Don't complain and don't put up roadblocks for yourself.
- Be courteous and respectful to everyone all of the time.
- Do your part!
- Do what you promise.
- Don’t talk about people behind their back.
- Try to help your family and friends whenever you can.????
- Don’t let yourself get dragged into other people’s complaints and bad attitude.
- Keep a gratitude journal. Write down at least one thing every day you are thankful for!
- Use positive words to describe your life! The words that we use have a lot more power than we think! How you talk about your life affects how your life will be. Your body and mind hear you being negative. Use the words like happy, doing well, pretty good, fun, lively, you will see your life in a whole different light!
- Have fun with challenges, embrace them as adventures instead of a problem!

While we are all staying at home together BEING RESPECTFUL OF EACH OTHER is a must!!!! This is a tough time for all of us. We can’t go to the movies, we can’t go out for dinner, we can’t go bowling, and... we can’t go to EFL!!!! ????
Being respectful means so many things and we talked about a lot of them at EFL, in fact we try to practice them every day at program. Being with other people means being respectful.
The golden rule “Treat others the way you want to be treated”
To remind you I’ve listed some of the ideas YOU gave me about what being respectful looks like.
Not talking when someone else is
Knock on a door before you walk in
Don’t do things you are not supposed to
Follow the rules
Give people personal space
Honor people’s feelings
Being on time
Do what you’re being asked to do
This is a tough time being stuck at home and it is hard on everyone not just you! But, if we all treat each other with respect think of our actions and your list above, it will be much easier to be together and get along!

Having a Sense of Humour
Don’t you love to be around someone who is funny and laughs easily at themselves, that is just uplifting to be with?! ????
I think we all do!! Having a sense of humor is so important in life, and right now while we are at home and not with friends and family it is even more important!
Seeing humor in life’s mess ups and stressful times just helps to make things a little lighter. We know that sometimes we just have to “go with the flow” and just “roll with it” and if we can try to keep a smile on our face through these times it is better for us and everyone around us!

Grateful for the "GREAT OUTDOORS"
This is a time when we can really appreciate being outside! Spring is here and the birds are singing, and the weather is slowly warming up! ????
We love the great outdoors at EFL, whether it is in winter playing snowman dodgeball or the summer having a swim at the beach or in Nan’s (Velma’s) pool, hiking at the farm we appreciate being outside!!
Right now, while we are all trying to stay away from crowds and germs, going outside is a great idea!???? We are so fortunate to live where we do. We are surrounded by nature and places to go for a healthy walk.
We are not in a crowded city full of people... ????
We have so many wonderful hiking trails... and everything is coming back to life after the long cold winter! ????
So how can we enjoy and be grateful for the outdoors...GO OUTSIDE! ????
- Go for a walk down your street, look for signs of spring. Take some photos if you can and post them on our group Facebook page for everyone to see!
- Go for a hike. If you have any trails near you or ask a family member from your household to take you hiking and be sure you take them on the trail with you!
- Sit outside in the sunshine, get a spot out of the wind and feel that warmth!
- If your mailbox is on your street, offer to walk down and check the mail. It’ll get you outside and you will be helping out!

Being Grateful for "Friends"
Why is it important to be grateful in general? We know that we have so many things in our life that we should be grateful for, but sometimes we forget to think about “what is really important” and how we can show our gratefulness?
This week we want to think about our friends and how special they are to us.
Each day at program we enjoy the fun we have with one another! We laugh together, dance together, hike together, cook together, swim together, make crafts together and so many more wonderful things we do together!
Just think how boring it would be if we didn’t have each other? Dancing alone with just Louise would not be nearly as much fun without your friends there with you. Or going bowling without the rest of the EFL gang just would not feel the same, or any of the great activities we do together...
So, this week let's think about
“How Grateful we are for Friends!
How can we do this?
How can we show each other how much we matter?
Well... here are a few suggestions for you!
Try to come up with some ideas of your own that you could do to let your friends know how grateful you are for them!

What does this mean? Why is this important?
We talked about personal space and how important it is to be respectful of each other's personal space.
Now with all the concerns we are facing, and the spreading of the Corona Virus personal space is more important than ever! ????
We know that in our previous lessons on personal space, that no one likes to have intruders in their bubble unless they are invited in...
Now we are being told to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others outside of our homes.
What does this really mean or look like???? ????
Well... if you think of the length of the EFL van, that is about 6 feet. This is how far we need to keep away from anyone outside of our homes.
For example, when at the grocery store you need to be the length of the EFL van away from other people in order to not pick up their germs.
This will keep you safe if you must be out in public. However, guys...

What is self-care?
Self-care is when we take the time to look after our own needs. So often we are focused on everything else that is going on in life that we forget to pay attention to ourselves. Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.
What are the benefits of Self-Care?
Self-care is key to improve your mood and helps lessen anxiety. It is also a good way to maintain a positive relaitonship with yourself and others as well.
Let's Get Organized!
Why is it important to be organized? How do I start to organize things? What things should I keep organized?
All good questions! There are so many things in life that we can do to make our lives run a little smoother and being organized is one of them! I want you to pick a small area in your home to organize this week. It could be your bedroom closet, a bookshelf, the junk drawer in the kitchen, under the bathroom sink....you pick!
I want you to look at you're area and decide how you want to organize things. The questions you can ask yourself are: Do I need this item? Is this item staying or going in the garbage? Once you’ve decided what is important and what you are keeping, you can then decide how you would like to organize the area. Depending on what your organizing, you may choose to put your items into categories by size, colour, age, even by how much you use the item. You have to ask yourself what makes sense when your organizing things. You wouldn’t put something you use every day at the back of a drawer. You want it up front so it's easy to grab when you want to use it.
What things should I keep organized?
Finances- know where your money is and if you have any bills you need to pay
Appointments- write down important dates you need to remember
Organize your day with a daily planner or calendar
Keep things in the same place so you don’t have to look for them
Why should you eat a healthy breakfast every day?
This first meal of the day is very important because it gives your body the energy it needs to get going in the morning! It will boost your energy and help your brain to focus better so you don’t feel groggy!
How can you make sure your eating healthy every day?
The most important thing to do is look at the label! What are you actually eating? Is it full of sugar or preservatives? Would there be a better choice of food?
Eat whole foods, that means things that you can grow. (You can’t grow a hot dog)
Slow down when you're eating and savour all the flavours. It takes your body 20 minutes to realize that your full. If you are eating too fast, you are likely to overeat.
Drinking lots of water will keep you hydrated and if you're feeling hungry it will prevent you from overeating.
Keep a record of what you eat each day. This will help you see what changes you may need to make in your diet.

Why do we need to exercise?
It makes us feel better, gives us more energy, and even adds years to our life! The benefits of staying physically active just can’t be ignored. Exercise improves everyone's life whether your male or female, young or old, or have different physical abilities. Regular exercise can help prevent many health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, anxiety, stroke, and even arthritis. It can also help your brain to work better!
How often should you exercise?
You should be physically active every day! That means 30 minutes of continuous movement at one time! A 30-minute walk is a perfect way to get continuous movement. Think about exercises you enjoy doing. Some people like to swim, others like walking/hiking or even sports like pickleball!
You can keep a journal or just print a tracking sheet off the internet to help you see how much exercise you are getting in a day. There are also a lot of really helpful apps that you can use to help track your activity.

Being a Good Neighbour
How can we safely be a good neighbour in the upcoming weeks?
I know it’s hard to be stuck at home and we are all wanting to get out and be social with friends, neighbours, and family. We certainly aren’t used to being confined to our homes, but it is really necessary in order for us all to stay healthy. We must be grateful that we have each other and remember those who are alone in isolation. Being a good neighbour is still possible while keeping a safe distance. Here are some ideas for you:
Grab your rake and start your neighbours lawn work! They can thank you from a window or their front door...
Being a good neighbour also means that you keep your own place looking clean and tidy. Maybe you can rake your own yard and start to clean up all the garbage that was left behind this winter.
Flower beds may need to be tidied up and it gives you a chance to work outside in the nice weather!
If you have elderly neighbours, wouldn't it be nice to leave them an encouraging note on the front porch, or calling them to just have a chat .
Colour some mandelas and hang them in your front window for people to look at.

Why is it important to practice good personal hygiene?
Good personal hygiene is so important for both health and social reasons! This includes keeping your hands, head and body clean to help stop the spread of germs and illness. Your personal hygiene benefits your own health and impacts the lives of those around you too!
Name 3 ways to take good care of your body.
- Take a bath or shower every day
- Brush your teeth properly
- Make sure to clean your ears, and nails as well.
When should you wash your hands?
You should be washing your hands every time you come back in from being outside of your home. This includes just walking to the mailbox to pick up your mail, or even just going for a walk around the block. It’s very important to keep your hands clean so you don’t transfer any germs that might make you sick. Remember to sing the alphabet 2 times while you are washing and soaping up your hands.
