Events for Life Centre Inc. (EFL), based out of Thornbury, Ontario, near Collingwood/Owen Sound, is looking for new Board Members.

Here’s what we do – once a student with special needs reaches the age of 21, their formalized schooling ends. Opportunities to build life skills, live independently, and be engaged in leisure and social activities are limited, especially in rural communities. Events for Life fills this gap.

The Events for Life Centre Inc. began as a summer program in 2013 and has grown every year since then. We currently offer year-round programs, three days per week. We also offer two social activities for the participants every month. Local recreational activities such as swimming, dance, music therapy, pickle ball and yoga create opportunities for increased physicality and community orientation.

Our extraordinary growth has created a need to expand our Board. EFL is looking for Board Members who are driven by the belief that all individuals are provided with the access and supports needed in their daily lives. The Board of Directors works with the Executive Director to ensure the effective governance of the organization and meets monthly. Occasionally, Board Members represent EFL by attending various functions or events in the community.

The Board, being responsible for governance, helps set the organization’s goals, direction, limitations, and accountability. Other key areas of responsibility include: overseeing and monitoring organizational and financial operations, management of risk, and the development and execution of a strategic plan. Board Members may also participate in committee work and can expect to volunteer 8 to 12 hours a month or more.

We are looking for board volunteers with experience in one of more of the following main areas:

  • • Accounting
  • • Business
  • • Community Leadership
  • • Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations
  • • Fundraising and Philanthropy
  • • Law (preferably in non-profit, business, or disability law)
  • • Human Resources
  • • Other categories that meet programmatic and strategic planning goals

Overall, EFL is looking for a diverse group of committed individuals who want to make a difference in their community. The volunteer board position is an excellent opportunity to leverage your experience, add value, make a contribution, and give back to the community.

Qualifications:

No previous board experience is required however would be considered an asset.

You will need to provide a clear criminal and vulnerability background check if selected as a nominee for election.

Applying:

To apply for a Board Position please send an email to board@eventsfor.life indicating your interest, a cover letter, and your contact information.

Please include in your cover letter: two professional references and how your experience and/or interests will help EFL in its commitment to facilitating and delivering on our mission.
